US Dollar Might Not Keep Currency Crown Next Year: Poll

In a year's time, euro, which is down more than 3% against the dollar this year,

is forecast to gain 4% to $1.21 from around $1.16 on Wednesday.

The US dollar, which has had its best yearly performance since 2015 so far in 2018, will hold on to those gains for the rest of the year but beyond that is unlikely to maintain its ascendancy, a Reuters poll showed. A majority of foreign exchange strategists in Reuters polls since the dollar's resurgence in April had predicted a reversal in its fortunes, with the upward trend not expected to last more than three months. But the current rally has outlasted those expectations. Still, the latest poll of over 50 strategists taken August 31- September 5 showed the dollar, up over 3 per cent this year, would reverse that trend with most currencies - including battered emerging market currencies - forecast to gain in a year's time.
That thinking is driven by expectations that US economic growth momentum has peaked as well as the fact that many of the things underpinning the dollar - ranging from expected Federal Reserve interest rate hikes to the US-China trade dispute - have now been priced in.
"The substantial US dollar rally was not widely expected, even within the context of looking over the past long-term downtrend in the dollar against major currencies. It has definitely gone on for long and has been a surprise based on the length and magnitude of this corrective bounce in the dollar," said Nick Bennenbroek, head of FX strategy at Wells Fargo.
"But over time, once the fiscal stimulus eventually fades ... we do expect the dollar to soften over time and there are indications that it might be getting closer to the end."
While there has been no let-up in the trade wrangling between the United States and China, with President Donald Trump set to ramp up tariffs on more Chinese imports, the dollar's performance over the past month has been mixed.
Currency speculators reduced bets in favor of the US currency in the latest week for the first time in 11 weeks, after net long dollar positions hit a more 1-1/2-year high the previous week.
Still, the latest poll showed the US currency is not likely to fall in the near-term. Indeed, the median probability of a dollar correction of 5 per cent or more by year-end was only 20 per cent, according to responses to an additional question.
"The dollar is overvalued and the Fed isn't doing anything to send it higher, but that's enough for it to remain top dog in currency markets in the absence of good news elsewhere," noted Kit Juckes, global head of FX strategy at Societe Generale.
"The 'winner' is the currency that doesn't lose. And right now, that's still the dollar. There's not much to make me think the dollar should be going up, but there's plenty to make me nervous about other currencies."
In a year's time, though, the euro, which is down more than 3 per cent against the dollar this year, is forecast to gain 4 per cent to $1.21 from around $1.16 on Wednesday.
Sterling will gain around 6 per cent against the dollar in a year, but expectations for that rise are conditional upon Britain leaving the European Union with a deal, which is not certain.
The Japanese yen, which is also considered a safe bet during times of economic distress, is forecast to gain over 2 per cent against the dollar in a year.
"USD remains supported across the board due to market fears about a US-led global trade war, a booming US economy and continuing Fed policy normalisation – all of which underscore the appeal of the currency," noted strategists at CA-CIB.
COMMENT
"Over the long term, we anticipate renewed USD under performance on the back of a flatter US Treasury yield curve, concerns about the US's deteriorating twin deficits and the diminishing positive growth impact from President Trump's fiscal stimulus."

Anushka Sharma Promoted Google Pixel Using An iPhone. Promptly Trolled

You can run, you can hide, but you can't escape Twitter's watchful eye.

You can run, you can hide, but you can't escape Twitter's watchful eye. Anushka Sharma learned that the hard way when a Twitter user noticed that she was promoting Google's Pixel 2XL phone... through a tweet posted using her Apple iPhone. On Tuesday, the Sui Dhaaga actress shared a tweet with two adorable photographs to promote Pixel 2XL's camera. However, popular American YouTuber Marques Brownlee noticed that the tweet was posted from an Apple iPhone, one of Google's biggest rivals.
He called Anushka Sharma out in a tweet that has been 'liked' over 48,000 times since it was posted a day ago.
Though Anushka promptly deleted the original tweet and shared the post again, it was too late. Twitter already had screenshots and did not seem to be in a forgiving mood.
Marques even had a reply for one person who defended Anushka Sharma, saying that she probably clicked the pictures from a Pixel phone and transferred them to her iPhone.
Surprisingly enough, this is not even the first time that Marques Brownlee has called a celebrity out for endorsing rival brands using iPhone. Back in April, he had trolled Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot for tweeting an ad for Huawei using an iPhone:
Very recently, in a similar incident, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei was left embarrassed when Reddit users discovered they had been using a DSLR camera to fake smartphone selfies.

iPhone 2018 6.1-Inch LCD Variant's Alleged Dummies Show 4 Colours, Dual SIM Slot

Apple is all set to unveil its iPhone 2018 lineup at a launch event slated for September
12 at the company's Steve Jobs Theater in California. From the barrage of rumours that have made their presence felt in the past few months, it is anticipated that Apple will unveil three new variants - an iPhone X successor with a 5.8-inch OLED panel, a larger 6.5-inch model, and a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model. In the most recent development, alleged dummies of the 6.1-inch LCD model have been leaked in four colour variants, showing off the phone's design elements, as well as a dual-SIM card slot.
The images come to us courtesy a tipster on SlashLeaks. The 6.1-inch unnamed iPhone
2018 LCD model has been seen in Red, White, Blue, and a subtle Rose Gold hue. The
presence of a single rear camera setup suggests that these are dummies of the LCD
model, however we cannot verify the genuineness of the leak.
Apart from that, the Apple logo and iPhone branding are seen on the back panel of all
three phones that appear to have a glass finish. On the bottom is the Lightning jack.
However, what disputes the accuracy of the dummies is that the lock button, placed on
the right, is seen to be abnormally larger than normal. A SIM tray is seen below the lock
 button.
Interestingly, a new dual SIM tray has been shown in one of the leaked photos, which is
on the lines of previous reports claiming that the LCD model will get an optional dual-SIM
variant, albeit exclusive to markets such as China. While the front of the smartphone has
not been shown, we can expect it to sport an iPhone X-like all-screen design with a
display notch.
Just after the media invites for Apple's September 12 event were sent out, a
report showed off renders for the upcoming variants of the iPhone Xs and
the Apple Watch Series 4. While the former duo are expected to borrow the
design language from their predecessor, iPhone X, the Apple Watch Series
4 is expected to get a design with thinner bezels.

despite the difficulties and expressed his intention to work closely with the US to

achieve denuclearisation "in the first official term of President Trump."

"Kim Jong Un of North Korea proclaims 'unwavering faith in President Trump.' Thank you to Chairman Kim. We will get it done together!," Trump wrote on Twitter.

South Korean National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong delivered a letter Wednesday to Kim from South Korea's President Moon Jae-in.

"Homosexuality Not A Mental Disorder": 5 Big Quotes From Sec 377 Verdict

In a historic judgement, the Supreme Court on Thursday has struck down the Section 377, which criminalized homosexuality. A five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra gave the the verdict on a bunch of petitions filed by five celebrity petitioners, to scrap the law. The Chief Justice, while reading out the verdict said criminalising gay sex is irrational and indefensible. "The Government must give wide publicity and government officers should be sensitised on LGBTs," said Justice DY Chandrachud. And Justice Indu Malhotra said, "History owes apology to the LGBT community for their sufferings."

  1. "Section 377 was a weapon to harass members of LGBT community, resulting in discrimination."
  2. Section 377 is arbitrary. LGBT community posses rights like others. Majoritarian views and popular morality cannot dictate constitutional rights."
  3. "No one can escape from their individualism. Society is now better for individualism. In the present case, our deliberations will be on various spectrums"
  4. "Autonomy of an individual is important. He or she can not surrender it to anyone"
  5. "Homosexuality is not a mental disorder"

ISRO and CNES, the French space agency, will be combining their expertise in

fields of space medicine, astronaut health monitoring, life support, radiation

protection, space debris protection and personal hygiene systems, French

space agency president Jean-Yves Le Gall said.

India and France have announced a working group for Gaganyaan, ISRO's first manned mission announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day.
The announcement was made at the sixth edition of the Bengaluru Space Expo by French space agency president Jean-Yves Le Gall.
India plans to send three humans to space before 2022.
The Indian Space Research Organisation's mission is significant as it would make India one of the four countries in the world after Russia, US and China to launch a manned space flight.
ISRO and CNES, the French space agency, will be combining their expertise in fields of space medicine, astronaut health monitoring, life support, radiation protection, space debris protection and personal hygiene systems, Mr Gall said.
Engineering teams have already begun discussions and it is envisioned that infrastructure such as CADMOS centre for development of microgravity applications and space operations or the MEDES space clinic will be used for training of future Indian astronauts, as well as exchange of specialist personnel, Mr Gall said.
ISRO plans to conduct experiments on microgravity through its astronauts.
French-Indian space cooperation spans in areas of climate monitoring, with a fleet of joint satellites devoted to research and operational applications, innovation, through a joint technical group tasked with inventing the launch vehicles of the future.

Aim To Achieve Denuclearisation In Donald Trump's First Term: Kim Jong Un

The third summit between the North's leader Kim Jong-Un and South Korean

President

Moon Jae has been announced for September 18-20.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA:
The leaders of the two Koreas will hold a summit in Pyongyang in September, Seoul said Thursday, as Kim Jong Un renewed his commitment to the denuclearisation of the flashpoint peninsula.
The announcement of the September 18-20 summit -- the third between the North's leader Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in this year -- comes as US efforts to dismantle Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal have stalled.
The two leaders will meet in the North Korean capital to discuss "practical measures to denuclearise" the peninsula, South Korean National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong told reporters.
Chung on Wednesday flew to Pyongyang where he handed over a personal letter from Moon to Kim, as Seoul seeks to kick-start the diplomacy that led to the landmark June summit between US President Donald Trump and the North Korean leader.
The two pledged to denuclearise the Korean peninsula at the Singapore meeting but no details were agreed, and Washington and Pyongyang have sparred since on what that means and how it will be achieved.
However, in his meeting with Chung, Kim renewed his commitment to that goal, North Korean state media said Thursday.
The two Koreas "should further their efforts to realise the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula", Kim was quoted as saying by KCNA.
"It is our fixed stand... to completely remove the danger of armed conflict and horror of war from the Korean peninsula and turn it into the cradle of peace without nuclear weapons and free from nuclear threat."

'Sense of frustration'

The pledge comes after Trump, frustrated with a lack of progress on disarmament, last month cancelled Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's trip to Pyongyang after the North reportedly sent a belligerent letter to the US leader.
Stephen Biegun, newly-appointed US envoy for the North, said last month Kim had promised "final, fully verified denuclearisation" at the Singapore summit.
But Pyongyang has slammed the Washington for its "gangster-like" demands for complete, verifiable and irreversible disarmament.
Kim emphasised that his "trust in Trump remains unchanged" despite the difficulties, Chung said, and expressed his intention to work closely with the US to achieve denuclearisation "in the first official term of President Trump."
But the North Korean leader also expressed a "sense of frustration" with the international community for not appreciating what he called Pyongyang's "very significant and meaningful" steps, Chung said.
Kim noted the North had dismantled its nuclear test site in Punggye-ri, where nuclear tests "have been made impossible for good", according to the South Korean envoy.
"Chairman Kim asked us to convey the message to the US that the US (should) help create situations where he would feel his decision to denuclearise was a right move", Chung said.
Chung also conveyed a message from Trump to Kim, a presidential spokesman said, without elaborating.
'Litmus test'
The upcoming summit between Kim and Moon may help break the months-long deadlock after the Singapore summit, said Lim Eul-chul, professor at Kyungnam University's Graduate School of North Korean Studies.
"There is a still big gap between what the North considers sufficient goodwill gestures, like destroying its missile test stand or a nuclear test site, and what the US wants, including on-site verification by experts," he said.
Narrowing the gap and rebuilding trust between Kim and Trump is key in the dialogue -- if any -- ahead, he said, adding Kim would seek to send more reconciliatory messages to Trump through Moon in September.
North Korea has demanded that Washington agree to formally end the 1950-53 Korean War, and accused it of failing to reciprocate "goodwill measures".
But American officials and conservatives in the South are concerned such a declaration would weaken the US-South Korea alliance and deprive the 28,000 US forces stationed on the peninsula of their deployment rationale.
Kim dismissed such worries, Chung said, and told the South Korean delegation that a formal end of the Korean War would not be linked to the withdrawal of the US troops.
Professor Yang Moo-jin of the University of North Korean Studies said Kim sees the US agreeing to a formal end to the war as a "litmus test" to determine whether Washington is sincere in moving forward.
COMMENT
"But the US... does not seem to be ready to accept the North's demand", he told AFP.

It Is The End Of Section 377: But Before That, Let's Get Some Facts About Homosexuality Straight; Supreme Court Gives Verdict

End of Section 377: In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality and said that Section 377 - which puts a ban on consensual gay sex - is arbitrary and irrational. Its time we get our facts straight about homosexuality.

In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality, a much awaited moment in the gay rights movement in the country. The Supreme Court reversed its own 2013 decision and said that Section 377 - which puts a ban on consensual gay sex - is arbitrary and irrational. Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra read out the judgement which stated that we have to bid adieu to prejudices and empower all citizens. Everyone is entitled to their individualism and every individual's choice needs to be respected. The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Community possesses equal rights under the constitution, it was mentioned in the court.
It is undoubtedly one of the happiest moments in the country today. However, myths and misconceptions about homosexuality continue to exist and many may not be aware of basic facts about homosexuality.
1. Homosexuality is a sexual orientation where a person feels attracted to the same sex or gender as him/herself. Homosexual men and women are referred to as gay or lesbian respectively.
2. Homosexuality is not a disease, mental disorder or any defect. It is common to be unsure or uncomfortable with your sexuality. Talking about sexuality to your loved ones can help become more comfortable with your sexuality.
3. There is no cause of homosexuality. It is totally on the basis of an individual's choice and preference. Some researchers believe it is a result of one's genes, socialization and other individual factors or an interplay of them all.

4. You cannot convince a homosexual person to be heterosexual or change his/her sexuality. You cannot pressurize someone to change their sexuality. It can lead to stressanxiety and depression. It can also hamper a person's physical, mental and emotional health.
5. It takes time until a person realises whether s/he is homosexual or bisexual or heterosexual. Many people tend to experiment to see what makes them comfortable and happy. The decision to choose your sexuality may be hard and difficult to accept initially.
6. Once you take a decision and are affirmative about being homosexual, you can talk about it with your friends and family. At times people are already aware about their sexual orientation and then it might not be that difficult to open up about it.
7. In case you feel inquisitive or are unsure about your sexuality, try and talk to a doctor. You might feel depressed and have doubts about your gender identity. Seeking expert advice can be helpful in this case.

Maruti Suzuki India Has Sold Over 4 Lakh CNG Cars In India So Far

Maruti Suzuki India currently sells seven CNG-powered vehicles in India, namely - Alto 800, Alto K10, Wagon R, Celerio, Ecco, Ertiga, and the Super Carry light commercial vehicle.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has sold over 4 lakh CNG (compressed natural gas) powered cars in India. The information was revealed at the 58th Annual SIAM Convention, which has seen most of the discussions centred around electric and alternative fuel vehicles. Maruti Suzuki India currently sells seven CNG-powered vehicles in India, namely - Alto 800Alto K10Wagon RCelerio, Ecco, Ertiga, and the Super Carry light commercial vehicle. In fact, right now, Maruti Suzuki is essentially the only carmaker to offer company-fitted CNG passenger vehicles for personal use in India.

All the aforementioned cars get the same engines as their respective petrol counterparts and are essentially equipped with a CNG kit. However, compared to the petrol version, the CNG-powered cars come with a considerable drop in power output. Having said that, the CNG kits does also offer a considerable boost in mileage, and among Maruti's passenger vehicles, the Alto K10 offers the highest mileage of 32.26 km/kg.
Early this year, Maruti Suzuki India had said that that company plans to introduce more CNG cars over EVs in order to reduce carbon emission. Among new models that are set to get CNG kits, we are likely to see the Dzire Tour S, which will cater to the taxi fleet market. In fact, we have already seen some spy images of the Dzire Tour S CNG.

Even the government has been promoting CNG vehicle right now, in fact, the Delhi Government had proposed a 50 per cent reduction in Road Tax for brand new CNG vehicles that come with factory fitted CNG kits. Furthermore, at the SIAM event, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that by 2030, 10,000 CNG stations will be opened in India.
