Former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar will be the candidate for the General elections from this seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.


As a CPI candidate from Kanhaiya Kumar Begusarai, former president of JNU Students Union (JNUSU), will contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 with the support of the alliance (RJD, Congress, I and NCP).

CPI state secretary Satyanarayan Singh said that all the Left leaders, including his party, want Kanhaiya Kumar Begusarai to contest the Lok Sabha election in 2019. He said that other parties like RJD and Congress also want to contest the elections. Regarding discussion of RJD chief Lalu Prasad's consent in connection with this, Satyanarayan said that during the talks with him earlier, he agreed to leave for one seat Kanhaiya Kumar. He said that his party has decided to contest elections in six Lok Sabha seats in Bihar in the next general elections, but the final decision about this will be taken after talks with HQs.
Six seats in which the CPI wants to withdraw its candidate include Begusarai, Madhubani, Motihari, Khagaria, Gaya and Banka. On being asked whether Kanhaiya Kumar has given his consent to contest from Begusarai, Satyanarayan said that he is ready for this. He said that though Kanhaiya Begusarai would be the CPI candidate, but he would get support from the alliance partners RJD, Congress, we secular and NCP and other Left parties. Kanhaiya is a native of Bihat Panchayat under Barauni Block of Begusarai District, while his mother is an Anganwadi worker and his father is a small farmer.
Bhuj Singh, a senior BJP MP from Bagusarai who once considered the Left's stronghold, is Bhola Singh. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Randu candidate Tanvir Hassan was second and CPI (M) candidate Rajendra Prasad Singh was in third place with the support of JDU.
